The announcement of the construction of the Orem Utah Temple on October 5, 2019, was met with excitement and anticipation from members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah County. The Orem LDS Temple, which will be the first in Orem and the 22nd in Utah, is built on a 16-acre site owned by the church. The Orem Temple's public open house started on Friday, October 27, through Saturday, December 16, 2023, excluding Sundays and Thanksgiving Day. The event will kick off with a media day on Monday, October 23, followed by guest tours through Thursday, October 26. The temple will be dedicated in two sessions on Sunday, January 21, 2024. The Orem Utah Temple is a three-story, 70,000-square-foot building with a single attached central spire. The exterior finish of the temple is Portuguese granite, giving it a stunning and unique appearance. Unlike most Latter-day Saint temples, the Orem Temple does not have a gold-leafed angel Moroni. Inside the temple, there are four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry. These rooms will serve as sacred spaces where Church members can participate in ordinances essential to their salvation. The groundbreaking of the Orem Utah Temple was held on September 5, 2020, and was attended by a small gathering of about thirty people. Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, presided at the event and said in his remarks: "The Orem Utah Temple will become an added refuge of strength in an increasingly uncertain world—a holy place where we learn and live more fully the great plan of happiness made possible by our Savior, Jesus Christ." Elder Evan A. Schmutz, a member of the Utah Area presidency who grew up in Orem, also expressed his excitement for the temple: "The temple will act as a beacon, drawing the gaze of millions as they pass by this hallowed ground and inviting the devoted service of hundreds of thousands of faithful Latter-day Saints, as the ordinances of salvation are offered to the living and the dead. "Besides the temple, there is a new 20,000-square-foot meetinghouse on the same property. This meetinghouse will be a gathering place for Church members to worship and learn together. The Orem Utah Temple is a testament to the faith and dedication of the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah County. It will be a sacred space where Church members can draw closer to God, receive essential ordinances, and find peace and strength in an increasingly uncertain world. We invite you to join us in celebrating the dedication of this beautiful temple in January 2024.
